Asian Blepharoplasty

When comparing the Asian and Caucasian eyelids you will notice that they differ in shape and size. About half of the Asian population do not have a fold in the area above the eyelashes. Los Angeles plastic surgeon Charles S. Lee, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a specialist in Asian blepharoplasty in Beverly Hills, and at Enhance ® Medical Center, Inc., he offers the latest techniques and procedures for enhancing non-Caucasian facial features with Asian plastic surgery.

“I just wanted to write and say thanks for the incredible job on my eyelids. It's only been less than a week and I'm already loving them.”

Many Asians opt for double blepharoplasty surgery when the absence of a crease in the eyefold is present. Typically, Dr. Lee performs the Asian blepharoplasty procedure using the double sutures and twisting method (DST), which is a non-incision approach and offers less scarring and an easier recovery. Traditional eyelid techniques have been criticized for the high breakage rate and indistinct folds, which fade over time.

The DST approach allows Dr. Lee to suture a fold without an incision, which not only lasts longer, but provides a more natural look to the crease. He will create a crease in the eyelid by placing permanent non-reactive sutures (prolene, used in heart valve surgery) and securing them in the upper lid, the tarsal place, which is made of strong cartilage. The other end of the suture is interlinked to the adjacent suture.

In addition to Asian upper eyelid blepharoplasty, Dr. Lee often performs nose surgery (“rhinoplasty”) and jaw surgery (“jaw reduction surgery”). These are combined to create an overall improvement of the Asian facial structure.
