Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills, CA

Overview

Nose surgery, also known as “rhinoplasty,” is a procedure designed to improve the size and shape of the nose and/or correct breathing problems associated with the nasal passage. As the central feature of the face, the nose plays a significant role in determining overall facial harmony. Rhinoplasty helps create a nose that is in balance with the rest of the face by correcting the unsatisfactory results of genetic deformities or traumatic nose injuries.

How can rhinoplasty improve my nose?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures at our plastic surgery clinic because of its ability to improve facial harmony. With nose surgery, Dr. Charles Lee can effectively achieve the following:

  • Reduce the overall size/width of the nose
  • Smooth out bumps and/or depressions on the bridge of the nose
  • Narrow (or raise) the bridge of the nose
  • Change the size or shape of the tip of the nose
  • Widen or narrow the size of the nostrils
  • Adjust the angle between the nose and upper lip
  • Straighten the septum to improve breathing

Types of Rhinoplasty

Dr. Lee performs many types of rhinoplasty to help his patients best achieve their personal aesthetic goals.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty is primarily concerned with enabling air to flow through the nose passageways more easily for improved breathing. Dr. Lee can fix a deviated septum so that the bone and cartilage are straight. Some patients may decide to make cosmetic changes as well since the nose is already being operated on.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Ethnic rhinoplasty derives from the understanding that physical traits can differ from culture to culture and that the Caucasian standard of beauty does not and should not apply to all patients. With ethnic rhinoplasty, Dr. Lee adjusts the nose without erasing the characteristics that are commonly associated with your race. Dr. Lee is regarded as one of the foremost experts in Asian rhinoplasty.

Male Rhinoplasty

The type of noses that look attractive on a female face are not the same as those that look good on a male face. Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for men, but men should be careful to choose a surgeon who has experience working on male patients so that they don’t end up with feminine-looking features. Typically, men seek noses that are larger, wider and extend further from the face with more prominent nostrils.

Revision Rhinoplasty

Dr. Lee can perform revision rhinoplasty when a patient is not wholly satisfied with the results from a previous surgery or revision by a different surgeon. It can be difficult and may require advanced techniques to operate on a nose that has already been altered, which is what makes selecting a top plastic surgeon for this procedure imperative.

Rhinoplasty Costs

Rhinoplasty is a highly customizable surgery, so the total price is dependent on the type of changes requested and whether it requires open or closed rhinoplasty. Most of the rhinoplasty surgeries that Dr. Lee performs are cosmetic in nature and therefore are not covered by insurance. However, health insurance may cover some or all of a functional rhinoplasty, which is performed to improve the airflow through the nose for better breathing. Enhance® Medical Center accepts financing through CareCredit so patients can make payment towards their out-of-pocket costs for rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

Will I have any pain or discomfort during the rhinoplasty procedure?

No. Anesthesia is administered throughout the entire procedure, so patients do not have to worry about feeling any pain or discomfort during surgery.

How long does nose surgery take to complete?

Nose surgery generally takes two to three hours to perform, although the exact amount of time needed for surgery will depend on the specific corrections that need to be made.

Will I be able to go home after the surgery is complete?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis. However, because you will still be under the effects of anesthesia after surgery, you will need someone to drive you home.

Will rhinoplasty leave scarring?

Surgical procedures that require incisions generally leave some extent of scarring. However, incisions will be placed inside the nose or on the columella between the nostrils to ensure scarring is as inconspicuous as possible. If a rib graft is required, the incision is hidden in the breast crease.

When will the stitches be removed?

Stitches are typically removed six or seven days after surgery.

How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?

Most patients will need about one week of downtime to recover from rhinoplasty, after which time they generally feel good enough to return to work. However, strenuous exercises and physical activities should be avoided until after your surgeon determines that your nose has healed properly at a follow-up appointment.

When can I expect to see results?

The results of nose surgery will become more evident as swelling goes down over the coming weeks and months. It may take up to a year to see the final results of your rhinoplasty.

What is the right age to have rhinoplasty?

The only significant age restriction when it comes to rhinoplasty is that patients should be over the age of 16. Dr. Lee advises against making any surgical adjustments at this age because your bones continue to grow throughout puberty.

Beyond that, adults of a variety of ages seek rhinoplasty. More people in their 20s undergo nose reshaping than any other age group, the reason being that many people in this group know from a young age that they would prefer their nose to look differently.

Is there a way to change the shape of my nose without undergoing surgery?

Although rhinoplasty is by far the most effective way to make changes to the nose, if you would prefer to avoid surgery you may be a good candidate for a “liquid nose job.” With this non-surgical procedure, Dr. Lee uses hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane to make your requested changes. Strategic injections can shrink a bump on your nasal bridge or improve your side profile. The important thing to remember is that while rhinoplasty results are permanent, injectable treatments tend to last for six months to one year, so periodic injections are required to maintain your results.
