Asian Liposuction
Liposuction can remove stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. On Asian patients, the areas that most often collect fat are the arms and the waist area. However, due to the scarring tendency of Asian patients, we use liposuction on these areas only in extreme circumstances. Other areas that may be in need of liposuction include the inner and outer thighs, the calves, and the back.
At our facility, we perform Asian liposuction under straight local anesthesia with the tumescent technique. This technique involves injecting a mixture of local anesthetic, adrenaline, and saline just below a patient's skin. The anesthetic numbs the skin while the adrenaline constricts blood vessels. The advantage of this technique is that there is very little bruising or pain after surgery. Using straight local anesthesia allows the patient to stand up at the end of the procedure so we can make sure the results of the procedure are optimal.
With smaller volume Asian liposuction, patients can usually go home the same day they have surgery. Most people who receive this type of liposuction can get back to their normal routines in just a couple of days.
