Brow Lift & Facelift

Because Asian patients do not experience aging in the face the same way as some other ethnicities, the surgical techniques used to correct the signs of aging need to be tailored to their specific needs. Facial aging in Asian patients typically appears around the eyes, brows, and mid-face. Brow lift surgery and facelift surgery can be tailored to help Asian patients achieve a younger, more rested appearance.

What Can a Brow Lift and Facelift Treat?

The Brow Lift and Facelift Procedure

  • Brow Lift

    • Incisions are placed behind the hairline along the scalp for easy concealment
    • Most patients require three to five small incisions
    • Endoscopic techniques are used for a less invasive procedure
    • The brow is elevated to create a slight arc
  • Mid-Facelift

    • Incisions are made below the eyelid
    • Dr. Lee lifts the underlying tissues that cause nasolabial folds
    • Addresses the middle portion of the face, which can be difficult to address with traditional facelift surgery

Concerns

  • Recovery

These surgeries are outpatient procedures; however, you will need to have someone present to drive you home and stay with you for the first night. You will be given specific aftercare instructions to follow for the first few days and weeks of your recovery. All incisions will be covered with bandages to help reduce swelling and aid healing. Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks, but all strenuous activity should be avoided for four to six weeks or until Dr. Lee clears you.

  • Scars

As with any surgery, scars will be present at the incision sites. Because Dr. Lee uses endoscopic techniques for his brow lift, scarring is minimal and usually hidden by the hairline. Mid-facelift incisions are made just beneath the eyelid to provide easily concealable scars. Be sure to protect incisions from the sun, as the sun’s rays can darken the appearance of scars. All scars will fade with time.

  • Cost

The cost of your procedure will vary depending on the techniques or combination of techniques used. The final cost will also reflect anesthesia costs, facility fees, surgical fees, and other related costs such as pre- and post-operative appointments. You will be given an accurate cost breakdown during your consultation.

  • Pain

Brow and facelift surgery are performed under anesthesia to allow for a painless procedure. Once the anesthesia wears off, you may feel some pain, discomfort, and tightness. Oral pain medication and cold compresses can remedy this, and all bruising and swelling should subside quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Am I a candidate for a brow lift or facelift?

Candidates for brow lift surgery or a mid-facelift experience dissatisfaction and insecurities stemming from the aging of their brow and midface. Individuals who are noticing the lowering of the brows or a significant level of aging in the upper face and between the brows may benefit from a brow lift. Patients who are noticing a deepening of the lines between the nose and mouth may benefit from a facelift. Candidates for these procedures should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations of their results.

  • What procedures can be combined with a brow lift and facelift?

A brow lift or mid-facelift is most often combined with upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Dr. Lee prefers to use a technique known as canthopexy to address excess fat in the lower lid. With this technique, Dr. Lee uses a minimally invasive suture that tightens and lifts the lower lid, similar to the way a mid-facelift is performed.

  • What are the potential complications associated with brow or facelift surgery?

These surgeries are considered safe and reliable ways to improve the youthfulness of your face. While rare, complications and side effects are possible. These risks include:

    • Adverse reactions to anesthesia
    • Bleeding
    • Infection
    • Poor wound healing
    • Scarring
    • Asymmetry
    • Changes in skin sensation
  • Will my results be permanent?

While the results of a brow or mid-facelift are designed to be long lasting, they will not stop the natural progression of aging. Your appearance will, however, always be more youthful than if you did not have surgery.
